Mr Harvey,
[[/strikethrough]] From the [[/strikethrough]] After my visit to the Jail in company with yourself and the other gentlemen of the Committee of Councils, I am of the opinion that the statements made to there Hd Qrs and [[/strikethrough]] illegible [[/strikethrough]] read by me to your committee are in some respects [[/strikethrough]] absolutely without [[/strikethrough]] unfounded and in other instances much exaggerated.

You have requested, as Chairman of the Committee,[[/strikethrough]] illegible [[/strikethrough]] that the statement to which I have above alluded with the names of the witnesses on which it is based, should be submitted to the Committee for their information. While I acknowledge the [[/strikethrough]] illegible [[/strikethrough]]propriety of this request, as regards the desire of the Committee to arrive at the fact I suggest that you will not insist upon it. [[/strikethrough]] illegible [[/strikethrough]] I consider myself sufficiently informed on the subject to make a Report on the papers referred to me - [[/strikethrough]] My-illegible- Report will [[/strikethrough]]and as the attention of the Committed has already been called to whatever is of importance
