Residing on Marshall between 1st and 2nd Sts

I work out by the day Washing &c for a living. I had that room when the two White women were arrested on the charge of having stolen property in their possession. My two sons who are Bricklayers and Plasterers and follow their trade for a living, were with myself at home one night about the 20th of April 1866 and before we had gotten up the next morning the Police came and arrested the two white women with myself and two sons, one of whom was very sick and we were taken to the 17th St Cage and kept there during the day and night and on the following day we were taken before the Mayors Court and sent to Jail, my sick son and myself.

I remained in the Jail five weeks, and my son 8 weeks, when Mr. Thomas Martin (Col'd) got my son and self out.
