prisoners and allowed them to cut themselves out of  their cell into the jail yard and then without halting them he fired three shots at them and then said "go back you sons of b--s" and then went to the cell they were in and shot into the prisoners for fifteen monutes and the prisoners would say "don't kill me Mr Brooks" &c at every shot he fired, and it was with difficultly that Mr Fred Hall Keeper of the Jail could prevent Mr Brooks, from shooting any longer after he had shot eight of the prisoners, wounding some of them in the head, some of them were shot three times.  I have also seen Mr F. Hall, Chief Keeper, cowhide, knock down and kick the female prisoners to such an extent that for several days they were in a helpless condition; there was no real cause for the way for the way in which said F. Hall and John Brooks beat the female prisoners, some of the females were within a few months and sometimes a few weeks of being confined when they were thus treated and abused.
   I have seen Mr Brooks come into the cell in which I and Eight others were confined, the Gas being lit, and have sexual intercourse with Beckey Chandler (white) about sixty times in all, and once with Mary Shay (white), these two females were well treated and well fed, and Mr Brooks would beat any of the female
