General:
I have the honor most resptfully to call your attention to Tom Johnson "Col'd" who was arrested by the Civil Police of this city under the following circumstances some months since.

The aforesaid "Tom" went to a Gun Smith and purchased a fowling peice and while on his way home in possession of the fowling peice was attacked by a Policeman who attempted to take the same away from him, he Tom resisted saying he had bought the Gun whereupon he was beaten severely by citizens and Police and afterward sent to City Jail there to remain until he paid a fine of $20. which neither he or friends can get.
