York County Va Aug 14 1866

To major Gen. O. O. Howard of the Department at Washington we the Colored people of the former mr Wm Warrens farm held a meeting for the perpose of seen wither we could [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] lease this place for five years with all its teams just as it stand We are men just out of service and want to see a bought living another year and thinks that we are as much able to [[strikethrough]] pass [[/strikethrough]] pay any reasonable rent as Those former white  we has the labors to perform and we believe that we can pay any reasonable rent to the Government as easy as we pay those men and we are just now calculated to manage as well as any white man because has don it for mr Warren have not forgot how to do it for our selves Just allow us the chance we would be [[strikethrough]] Gald if [[/strikethrough]] glad if you would shew us this Chance for this once if not five years as long as it lie in you power: We do sincerly pray God that we may be successful this once we would call and see you but being short of funs at this, and hope that you will answer us soon as you Received this that you will give us answer at Williamsburg, Va. to Corperal Daniel Standing
