A.A.A. Genl,

General,
I have the honor to report, in compliance with instructions of Asst Comr dated 25th of August, that I have inspected the papers in the possession of Mr C W Venable and herewith forward Copies of Receipts given by citizens for Gvt Stock and other property, with list of each county. I find that a great number of the horses have been sold and taken off to Market or elsewhere. Since they were receipted for, I do not know of any other such receipts being held by any one in my list, I called on Mr Simmerman and requested him to turn over the horse he had, he stated that he had purchased the horse, at public auction held by the C S Authorities as a condemned horse before the surrender, and that the receipt was given by his son,
