Hd. Qurs. Asst. Supt. 8th Dist. Va.
Christiansburg, Mont. Co. Va.
Sept. 24th 1866.

Capt. Geo. P Sherwood
Supt. 8th Dist. Va

Captain -
Application has been made to this office, by Hannah Smith (Colored) for transportation from Christiansburg to Lynchburg.

The above named Freedwoman is sick with the consumption, and is among strangers without the means of support. She has a Home and Friends in the vicinity of Lynchburg, who are willing to take care of her, provided she can go to them.

Her case has been personally investigated by me, and I find her worthy of any aid she may receive. A colored family have kindly taken her under shelter, until she can hear from this communication.

Very Respectfully Your Ob't. Ser'vt.
C.S Schaeffer
1st Lt. V.R.C. & Asst. Supt. 8th Dist Va.
