I have the honor to submit the following statement, and would respectfully ask for it your attention and instructions. I sent a similar request August 21st but have not received instructions.
 
Two Privates of the 12th U.S. Infantry on duty at this point committed a very unprovoked assault on Willis Wood (Cold".) this P.M. said Wood is a quiet man formerly the Servt" of Lieut Burd and is known and respected by all the Officers at this place. Bvt" Maj" Johnson of the U.S. Burial Corps was a witness to the whole proceedings and said he was so much excited that if he had a pistol he should probably have shot the man who struck
