States that U.S. Soldiers gave a broken down horse to a freedwoman, who took it to the house of her former master and told him he might keep it through the "croping season". When she demanded the return of the horse, he refused to return it. She then obtained an order for the horse from Capt. S. W. Prey. Ct. Vols- which was burned by her former mistress, who sold the horse to her son. Some time afterwards the horse was brought to the freedwoman by an unknown white man & offering to buy it, she refused to sell. She afterwards sold to a white man, who with the freedwoman are now under prosecution for receiving the horse knowing it to be stolen.
