Gentlemen:

Owing to the fact that [[I haven't]] have been well enough to give careful attention to the B[[?]] sent me on approval, I am only to-day enabled to give you my [[?]] and I regret that it is adverse to keeping [[the painting]]. The distribution of fireflies against the hillside is so suggestive of a human skull that I find the effects too ghost-like to be [[?]] [[?]] is much [[?]] like the painting in other directions [[?]] and beg you to accept my [[?]].
