April 6/97.

Mr. John E. Peabody,
183 Marlborough St.,
Boston, Mass.

My dear Sir:

The paintings, including Col. Hecker's Whistler, have all reached Detroit safely, and I also have your courteous note telling me of the success of the exhibition -- all of which is as it should be. I am truly sorry that I was deprived of the pleasure of visiting your exhibition. I surely expected to do so but an unexpected trip to the south together with considerable ill health prevented. I hear however from many directions appreciation of the manner in which the exhibition, even to the minutest details, was conducted, and I doubt not you have received many words of congratulation. May I add mine to the number?

Yours very truly,
Charles L Freer
