April 25/98.

Mr. A.R. Griffith,
C/o St. Denis Hotel,
Broadway & 11th St., New York.

My dear Mr. Griffith:

I have your note of 24th inst. and hasten to reply.

The reason I have not communicated with either yourself or Mr. [[McBath / Hobath]] positively ere this about sending the Innis to Omaha is because of the fact that recently I have had a "nibble" for the picture. A party who owns several important Innisses is quite familiar with mine and has asked for my final price. This I have given him and he has the matter under consideration. I told him that I contemplated sending the picture to your exhibition, and he said that if he bought it he would require the canvas for early delivery. I expect to be in New York within a few days and will then try to get a positive answer as to whether or not the party will complete the purchase, after which I will communicate with you again.

What success are you having? And what is to be the character of your deportment of the exhibition? Will it include important examples of the best American masters?

With best wishes,
Yours very truly,
Charles L Freer
