Detroit, Mich.,

Mr. Wm. F. Jarvis,
Care Hotel Cambridge,
New York City.
My dear Billy:-

Your letter of 28th instant reached me yesterday on my return home and I was glad to have so favorable a report from you. The funds you spoke with Col. Hecker about, will be duly deposited to your credit to-day.
We had a fine time at the Hot Springs and are all feeling very much improved because of the liberal exercise and excellent baths indulged in while there.
I presume you have heard of the death of our good friend, M.S.Smith. He is to be buried this morning, and you can fully appreciate, I am sure, how much he will be missed by his countless friends.
Hoping you are very well, I am, as ever,

Affectionately yours,
Charlie
