Dr. Thos. B. Stellman,
Staten Institute Technology,
Hoboken, N. J.

My dear Doctor: -
I am sending you by freight to-day three packages containing specimens of marl which I wish to have tested for some gentlemen in this city.

They are taken from a prospective mine in this state, and the samples and from the top, middle and bottom of the vein. What is desired is a complete test or analysis giving the value of the marl for making cement, giving the grade of cement that can be made from it, and whether it is suitable in all respects for that purpose.

I quote as fellows from a letter received when the marl was shipped to me:-

"The marl in the onn was taken from the top, bottom and center of the marl had by the marl gel and is from 200 acre tract. The stuff in the box is taken from the top of the bed. It is impossible to take that amount contained in the box out of the bed with a marl tool, therefore, it was dug out by hand right from the top."

I hope you make an early report as it is very desirable for many reasons. Your bill for services you will please render to me,

Yours very truly,
R. J. B. Strong
