Detroit, Michigan,
November 20th,1899.

Mr. A. H. Griffith,
Care Detroit Museum of Art,
Detroit, Michigan.

Dear Mr. Griffith:-
I have your favor of 19th instant enclosing copy of your letter of same date Professor Morse, also memorandum of subjects suggested by Professor Morse for his forthcoming lecture here.
It would seem to me that a Detroit audience would prefer to hear the Professor speak on the second topic mentioned, viz:- "Lacquers, Bronzes, Pottery, etc". You know his judgment, particularly on Oriental Pottery is eagerly sought for by all experts and collectors and I am inclined to think that a much larger audience would be attracted if it were known that he were to speak on the fine arts, than there would if the subject were to be "Industrial Arts of Japan". However, you can feel assured that any subject the Professor may choose will be handled most attractively.
You are very kind to invite my recommendation as to the subject, and in giving it as I do above, I want you to feel that I will be perfectly pleased with any topic that your own good judgment may select.

Yours very truly,
Charles L Freer
