Mr. J. P. Watson,
1 Churchgate Street,
Bombay, India.

My dear Mr. Watson:-
Captain Alger, a young friend of mine and a son of my Particular friend, General Russel A. Alger, late Secretary of War of the United States, has just started from London on a tour around the world, and I have forwarded to him a letter of introduction to you, which I trust will reach him on arrival at Bombay. I have requested him to present his letter of introduction and to consult with you concerning his travels in India. Should he call upon you, as I am sure he will in the event of my letter reaching him, will you
kindly advise him concerning what to do and how to do it, as you so kindly did myself, Col. Hecker, and doubtless many others who cannot forget your generous suggestions.
You will find young Alger a very bright and intelligent young gentleman, but he is entirely without experience in Oriental travel, and any and all courtesies you may extend to him will be greatly appreciated by me.
I trust you are very well and that you find affairs in India going smoothly.
With kindest regards, in which Col. Hecker joins me, I remain,
Yours faithfully,
Charles L Freer
