Detroit, Michigan,
December 15th, 1899.

Mr. Deming Jarves,
5 Front Street,
Detroit, Mich.

My dear Jarves:-

Earlier reply to your letter of 6th instant prevented by my absence.
The amount of bonds issued by the Barney and Smith Car Company is one million dollars. They bear interest at the rate of six per cent per annum. I am not sure about there being a redeeming clause in the mortgage, but I am of the opinion unofficially that there is one allowing their redemption at 110. You could however get this information accurately by addressing Mr.J.D.Platt, Vice President, Barney and Smith Car Co., Dayton, Ohio, or by writing to the Guaranty Trust Company of New York, who is trusted under the mortgage.
I note with interest what you say regarding the blue ginger jar. The office of the Trading Company told me the price obtained for the jar was slightly under five hundred dollars.
With kind regards, I am,

Yours very truly,
Charles L. Freer
