My dear Mr.Wells:-

I take pleasure in giving you below some information concerning points of interest in Italy, and will attempt to connect them in a brief itinerary, presuming that you will land at Naples. You will find several good hotels at Naples, the most pleasantly located and best kept one being the Grand, located at the end of the public gardens and on the seaside drive, where the fashionable set gather every afternoon. The city of Naples, itself contains many things of great interest to students of the fine arts. Its museum is world famous and is particularly rich in antique bronzes, in Pompeiian decorations, and in statuary, early jewels, etc., etc. The view from San Minato is very delightful and should be had early after arrival. Don't fail to visit the aquarium in the public gardens. Should you need a courier while at Naples or for that matter during your travels through Italy, I cheerfully recommend a man whom I have employed twice. His name is Bellinetti. He is a professional courier and his headquarters is at the Grand Hotel, Naples.

Almost the entire shore of the Bay of Naples was at one time occupied by villas of the days of the Empire, and you will find the ruins thereof at Pozzouli, at Pise, Pompeii and Herculaneum well worth visiting. One of the pleasantest trips in all Italy is the one known as the Sorrento trip. I think the pleasantest way to make it is to go from Pompeii first to Castalamára, then by carriage to Sorrento; from Sorrento across the mountains to Amalfi, from Amalfi to Ravello, thence yo La Cava; from La Cava by rail to Paestum, thence back to Naples.
