W.H.W.2.

Another very interesting trip is to go by steamer from Naples to the Island of Capri, where you will find an excellent hotel, splendid scenery and many interesting ruins, particularly those originally built by Tiberius. The grotto s on the island are fascinating and should be visited by a small boat. If you have time it will interest you to take a whole day for going around the island in a small boat. By doing this you can visit all of the grottos and see them to much better advantage than in any other way. There is an excellent hotel at Sorrento owned by Mr. Tramontano. It has good rooms, an excellent table and the view from the hotel windows is delightful. There is also a fine garden attached to the hotel and during the season good music is given nightly. The charges at this hotel are very reasonable and for a stay of any considerable time I have no doubt that Mr.Tramontano would make special rates. I know him quite well and if you care to do so I would be pleased to have you mention my name to him.

Another pleasant trip from Naples is to go by boat to the Island of Ischia. I would also strongly recommend a trip to Sicily. You can go by steamer from Naples in one night. The ships are very clean and comfortable and two or three weeks could be spent there most delightfully. Should you go,don't fail to visit Syracuse and spend at least two days there in visiting the old Greek fortifications, theater etc. The view of the ocean and of Mount Aetna, en route to Syracuse is one of the most beautiful I know of.

From Naples go to Rome, where you will find several good hotels. I prefer the Quirinal. You will find Baedecker's Guide extremely useful in all your travels throughout Italy and especially in Rome. I also strongly recommend you to secure Hare's Book on Rome, From Rome be sure to visit Tivoli to see the falls and particularly the Villa
