Detroit, December 28, 1899.

Stanford White, Esq.,
180 Fifth Avenue,
New York City.
My dear Stanford:-

On Saturday last the beautiful tablet for the Yondotega house was carefully placed in position, with a handsome marble backing, by the parties here to whom it was sent. On the evening of that day a very large meeting of the members of the Club witnessed the unveiling. The Volunteer Soldiers and Sailors appeared in full uniform, and appropriate exercises were most successfully carried out. I wish you could have been present and seen how much everybody enjoyed their first view of the tablet. They were all delighted, and consider it the one artistic possession of the Club. Of course the sentiment it expresses is also particularly treasured by all interested, but I am glad to say that its artistic qualities are altogether enjoyed.

At a meeting of the Governor of the Club, held on the same evening, a resolution was unanimously passed, copy of which together with their individual sentiments of regrets [[?]] requested by the Governors of the Club to send to you. Let me add that the wish was unanimously expressed at the meeting of the Club, after the tablet had been unveiled, in which all members joined, that you would accept honorary membership in the Club, and that, whenever opportunity offers, you will favor the Club with your presence. Personally, I don't know that this will occur very often, but you can rest assured of a hearty welcome whenever you show up.

Mr. Cameron Currie, the giver of the tablet, wishes to particularly thank you, and he has advised me that as yet he has received no bill for your services in the matter, nor from the Gorham Company for the tablet. He would like to make settlement, and has requested me to write you on the subject. Will you not kindly have bills rendered to me at your early convenience.

I am sure it is needless for me to add my thanks, because you know perfectly well that I feel very much indebted to you.

Very sincerely yours,
Charles L. Freer
