My dear Stanford:-

The sketch by Thayer, enclosed in the beautiful frame, so kindly designed by you, came safely on Christmas morning--an appropriate time in which to enjoy the beauties of both the sketch and the frame. I am very much obliged to you for the thought and care given to the designing of the frame, and I don't know quite how to thank you for it, but I want you to understand that I do appreciate your goodness. Won't you kindly have a bill for the frame sent to me promptly.
