557 38 Detroit, Michigan, January 6th,1900. Mr. W. G. Smith, Care Berry Brothers, Detroit, Michigan. Dear Sir:- Your letter of the fourth instant is received. Enclosed herewith I beg to return the check for $1.000.00 which accompanied it, as I have no right to the same. Both yourself and Mr. Berry have discussed with me the distribution of the $27.300.00 par value of the 0. & W. Thum Company Stock, and know full well the amount thereof to which I am entitled. At your early convenience I would be pleased to receive certificates for one-fourth thereof, as mentioned in my letter of December 30th. As soon as it reaches me, I will forward my check for my proportion, one-fourth, of the $525.00 mentioned in the postscript of your letter. Yours truly, Charles L. Freer
