January 16th 1900.

Mr. Alfred H. Granger,
#806 The Temple,
Chicago, Ill.

Dear Sir:-
I have your favor of the 13th inst., and note the same fully. Your decision to borrow to etchings of which you have duplicates in Chicago for you forthcoming exhibition seems to me a very wise one, and particularly so as you have decided not to publish a complete catalogue of Mr. Whistler's work.

I have used the sheets you sent of duplicates in Mr. Lathrop's collection, and have marked from my list of etchings all of those shown on the sheets.

I have also excluded W.1. "EARLY PORTAIT of WHISTLER", and W 32. "GREENWICH PENSIONER". My impressions of these two plates I consider too defective in quality to be exhibited.

The balance will be shipped so as to reach you on the 22nd Inst., as requested.

In order to avoid any misunderstanding as to the etchings you are to receive from me, I take pleasure in handing you enclosed herewith a descriptive memorandum thereof.

Very truly,
Charles L. Freer
