My dear Sir:-

I have your letter of January 22nd, enclosing the list of etchings, the letter from Mr. Howard Mansfield, et. cetera, and thank you very much for same.

I have just wired you, as follows:-

"Regret cannot loan Haden collection. Am writing to you to-day."

and now beg to confirm same.

I cannot bring myself to loan at one time practically all of my Whistler collection of prints. I am looking forward next month to entertaining a number of people who will enjoy seeing those now remaining in my house. Furthermore, I do not like to assume the risk at one time of the possible destruction of so many art objects which I could never hope to replace.

I shall be pleased, however, to send for your exhibition "Wedmore,#1" from my Haden collection. It will reach you by express in a day or two.

I am glad to know that the Caxton Club is considering
