"The Sonata" by Irving R. Wiles is not fine in any way, and I am sure it would be a decided detriment to your group. It fetched only $525.00, but I consider even that about five times its real value.

The Mowbray "Arcadia" #19, I passed after it had reached nearly $1,000.00. and I am extremely glad that I did not get it for you, as I am sure you can get a better one later.

Col. Hecker bought what I consider the finest Wyant in the sale, #173, "Autumn, Keene Valley", for which he paid $3100.00. Another Wyant, much less fine, sold for $2,550.00; and the last one sold, #269, "In the Adirondacks", fetched $6,300.00. The latter price is ridiculous. I know of a good Wyant in New York which can be bought for about $1500.00. It is in a different key from the one owned by Col. Hecker, but is very fine in certain qualities, so that I think when you get ready to look for a Wyant, I can help you to find what you want. I will be glad to do the same with a Mowbray when the time comes.

The only Tryon of consequence in the Evans sale was "Daybreak", #219, on which I bid up to $1,000.00, when discovering that I was bidding against a dealer who had an unlimited commission to buy the picture, I quit. Furthermore, I had, fortunately, at that time received your message authorizing the purchase of the "Clearing
