O U Y

The vowels A E I O U and Y are used to classify the names, so that five-sixths of the time is saved in looking for a name. This is effected by writing the name in the column where its first vowel appears. Thus, Chas. Ford, under O; Miller & Metcalf, under I.
Half the time can be saved in indexing by writing with indelible pencil instead of ink, thus doing away with the blotters and their repeated turning.
