Richmond, Dec. 27th 1865

Col_ Brown
Commissioner of the F, Bureau

Sir
On the Complaint of One White man and One Colored Man, I am as a philanthropist, impelled to drop you a line being as I hope, ever to be in the language of a Celebrated latinist, "Homo sum: humani nihil a me alienum Puto" Complaining grievously that 1st was sued in Freedmans Bureau by Cold Woman for 4 dols. - Judgement against him for $6.75 which he paid, Cold vs. Cold for 50 dols- Judgement vs. him for about 68 dols part of which has been paid. Now in any Court during times of peace all claims for 100 Dols, all costs would not amount to more than $3.75 the Cold people are complaining to me as a public Officer in the law of great oppression

Transcription Notes:
I googled and "homo sum: humani nil a me alienum puto" is a latin phrase I am human, and nothing human is alien to me ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-09-16 19:24:34 ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-09-17 07:34:36
