Then there are very many women here with large families of children & no husbands, who have made a comfortable living by washing for the hospitals. What is to become of this large class of people now. I am unable to predict. Could any kind of manufactures be started here to furnish employment for the women & children, or could they have a few acres of ground which the mother & children could cultivate together, it would open up a more cheering future for them. With earnest desire to relieve the sufferings, & aid in the education, of this unfortunate class of our fellow-men I am , Captain;
