to me, through its possession are very important not only for the support of my family, but for the discharge of pending obligations, which heave been assumed under circumstances which I trust will materially influence your compliance with my request. At the beginning of the late unhappy war I was indebted to merchants of New York (and one or two in Philada (chiefly Geo. H. Stuart, Esqr) to the amount of nearly $50.000.  Since its close I have honestly settled this entire debt, paying a large portion in cash.  Bonds for the balance will soon mature.  To meet them I need this my property.  The building was built by the so call Cofed. Govt.  The law of the state recognises it as mine, and has required me to pay taxes on it, though it is forcibly with held from me, without compensation.  But it is claimed as the property of the U.S. Govt. 

I am willing under the circumstances to acquiesce in their claim to the building & will buy it, provided the land is surrendered.  As evidence Col, that your Bureau can dispense with this property without great inconvenience, I am informed that negotiations are pending, if not Concluded, looking to the transfer of
