I have the honor respectfully to solicit an appointment as agent of the F Bureau.

I entered the service of the Government as Captain in the 13th Regt NY Vols in April 1861 and remained in that service until July 12th 1865 where I was mustered out as Colonel of the 3d Regt NY Cavy Vols.

When the Rebellion ended I married in Virginia and have taken up a residence in said State but the prejudice existing in the minds of Virginians towards Northern men and especially towards Federal Officers forbids my entering into business with a reasonable
