What you say from Col. O. Brown Asst. Comm I think was from a misunderstanding of the case.

The week if not the day I recd. orders not to give up lands on orders to restore unless some fair provision was made for the Colored people occupying such lands, I notified Miss Parish & afterwards you & Mr. White that the place would be retained & rented this year to the occupants.

They all promised it should be done, & yet it is not done, and therefore I have engaged the place to the Colored people with the understanding that the rents go to Miss P.

I agreed to get her the same for it that Mr. White was to give. & If you think it best to buy him off as Mr. Webster suggests I should be willing he should have the lot on which his store stands without rent, or if he will clear out with his trash I will agree to allow him $100. & pay her rent.

I am Col. Very Respectfully your obt servt.

Capt. & A.Q.M.
