By direction of Maj. Genl. O. O. Howard, Commissioner &c. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt this day of discharge of 1st Sergt. J.H. Quarles. 1st U.S.C.C. with Check Book of Corpl. Francis Manning. 1st U.S.C.C. purchased by Sergt. Quarles. and two Powers of Attorney. Also certificate of mixed blood, and certificate of Lieut. Gilman Page, in reference to the purchase of Check Book by Quarles.

Enclosed please find blank filled up, which must be executed and returned to this Office before Sergt. Quarles' Claim for Arrears of Bounty can be filed. He must also send sworn statement that he was free on or before April. 19th 1861.
