Richmond March 24. 1866

Colonel O. Brown

Dear Sir
Soon after seeing you on yesterday I found that Mr Chase was again absent from the city and the period of his return was uncertain.

In the absence of any action or proposed action [[strikethrough]] either on [[/strikethrough]] in the matter of removing the house, either on his part or Mr. Washburne's I am left to infer that none will be taken. I have therefore no option left me, but to apply again to Genl Howard (and in case of failure with him, to others in authority) for the restoration of my property now in possession of my Bureau.

In view of your polite bearing towards myself, I am unwilling to take any action which even remotely can be construed into discourtesy to you.

The object of this note therefore is to inform you that I shall on Monday made said application for restoration, and to enquire whether any plan occurs to you by which it can be done with your concurrence and approval.
If you desire a personal interview with me you can have it now.

Very Respectfully
J. B. Watkins
