the young woman with two children one of which she had in the mean time and a child now about 7 years old which one of my woman who left in 1862 left here, making the total number here from the fore part of Nov 1864 till August 1865, having been till that time [?] all a dead expense but the young woman who was but little help because she had a child in Jany 1865, which fortunately providence took from her last fall, then I have been particular in giving you a description of my condition with my old slaves up to August last, when those who left me and I sent South began to come home, five [[Strikethrough]] more [[/Strikethrough]] come in August last, for two of whom the oldest except the old man I have got Homes in the neighborhood, since up to the first of Jany. a woman & three children have returned and five days back the old woman who carried her Husband the old man who never left me till Novr. 1864 made her appearance and they all say it is their wish to stay here and regret they ever went or was sent [[?]] away, that they were happy here, more so at work than they have been since they left and beg if in my power (I mean the adults, to provide for them and their children to remain here, one of the young women the oldest of them had a child born the 25 day of last month and another of them if she [[lives?]] and as their saying is, is lucky will have one in this or early in next month - I am sensible I have given you more to read than should be imposed upon a public man by one individual, but I hope you have read all I have written and and relieve me in some way of this burthen I am now under and cannot bear but a short time longer, I am a poor old infirm widower with no one about me immediately but those I have name here you will I am satisfied say, some of them should remain with you; but I cant long support half of them
