Genl:-
Your memorialist, Marietta Wise, widow of George D. Wise Esqr, late of Accomack County Va., for herself and in behalf of her only child, Marietta, the female orphan of said George D. Wise, respectfully represents that her late husband joined the armies of the Confederate States and served in various offices with an integrity, intelligence, zeal, good faith and true courage which your memorialist would not have concealed and would not disguise as long as she honors his memory and would not sully his good name, until he fell on the 17th day of June A.D. 1864 in the defences of Petersburg whilst serving in the office of Captain and Inspector of Wise's Brigade in the army of Northern Virginia. He died from his wounds on the 5th: day of July A.D. 1864, and his remains were immediately removed to Richmond and buried in the Hollywood Cemetery. His death and burial can be fully verified, and letters of administration have been granted on his estate in the Courts of Accomack County Va: At the time the Eastern shore of Virginia
