Brvt Brig Genl O. Brown
Asst Com. for Va.

Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge the reception of your letter of April 27th transmitting eleven vouchers for Retained Bounty amounting to $1108.33. Enclosed please find my checks to balance. I would advise you to be cautious about paying that man Ackis [[strikethrough]] who holds [[/strikethrough]] who claim to have bought the claim of Rich'd Johns for I have not such implicit faith in the cardinal virtues as promised by our colored brethren but what I am led to think that they will sometimes swear to a falsehood, as well as their white neighbors

I am very respectfully
Your obedient servant
