Dear Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your official message through Act. Asst. Adj't Genl. A.P. Ketchum in reference to my complaint of Lieut. W.S. Chase, Supt. of F.R. and A.L. for this County.

The conduct of Lieut. Chase so unbecoming an officer and a gentleman seemed to me to warrant, if not demand his dismissal from the U.S. Army, but I defer to your better judgment and accept cheerfully your decision to change his station as a settlement of the controversy.

Permit me to assure you, Genl., that Lt. Chase's successor will find me as ready as yourself to encourage and if need be, to assist him in the faithful discharge of the duties of his position and, in behalf of the Citizens, I promise
