General
A friend suggests that I ought to give you a statement of facts, in regard to the treatment of a col'd. man & his wife formerly belonging to Col. Malory as reported to you & the Presidents Committee by him. 

The facts are these. I purchased the Malory Place at Confiscation Sales. Dr McClellan was in possession, & continued to occupy the place by order of Gen. Ord until he left. Then it was turned over to me by order of Maj. Gen. Terry.

I found the family living in the kitchen as cook for Dr. McClellan & I proposed to them to remain & cook for me & I would give them their rent & pay them the same as Dr. Mc. had. It seemed to strike him favorably & he said he would talk with his wife & let me know

Dr. Frantz Dr. McClellan's successor had temporarily got into the house, & was enraged because Gen. T. had ordered him out. He got into a little house belonging to the Government just across my yard & induced this colored family to work for him, promising them that they might occupy my house in spite
