I have the honor to enclose herewith a copy of a letter received by me from Capt. J.M. Brown Chief QM Bureau of R.F. and A.L. at Washington D.C. by which it will be observed that I am directed by Major Genl Howard to cooperate with the Mission having charge of Colored Schools in this District for the purpose of furnishing school accomodation to the Freedmen.

In view of this fact, the Agent of the American Missionary Society has submitted plans for the erection of four (4) School houses in this vicinity, said school houses to be remodeled from some of the large Hospital Wards recently transfered to the Bureau by the Q.M Dept. I find a compliance with the requests of the Mission will involve an outlay to the Bureau of at least twelve
