door ajar, & went & got a carpenter to put a lock on the door & put the key in her pocket; and then she moved back the next week.
4th Question, by same. Do you know Aggy Peters well? Do you see her often? Have you ever heard her set up any claim to this house; or say that she had had it built?
Ans. I know her well. I live right across the street from her. I see her every day. I have been living opposite to her one month, next Saturday; but lived two squares from her on the same street five or six years, & more than that. I have seen her at least once or twice a week, during the whole of that time. I have never heard her set up any such claim, or say any thing about it.
5th Question, by same. You have said that Polly told you her mother had the renting of the house out? What do you mean by that? That she had any right to rent it out, or had taken it upon herself to rent it out during Polly's absence? What do you mean by Mr. Carrington giving her the key, when you say she had a lock put on the door? Whom did she mean by her lawyers having given her permission to move back to her house?
Ans. She said her mother had taken the house from her & was renting it out. As to Mr. Carrington giving her the key: Polly told me the saturday evening [[strikethrough]] before [[/strikethrough]] she [[strikethrough]] moved [[/strikethrough]] asked me to help her move, that Mr. Carrington had given her the key to move back. About a week, or may be more, after that Mr. Carrington called me to him, as he was standing at Polly's door, & asked me how come I to move Polly. I told him, I didn't move her; only helped to move her wood. Then I goes after her, how come she to tell me Mr. Carrington had given her the key; & then she told me how she had found the door open & had the lock put upon it. I would n't have moved her, had I known there was any difficulty about the house; & she must have told me Mr. Carrington had given her the key in order to get me to help her to move back. She meant her own lawyer
