Stamford Ct. Oct. 3", 66.

Gen. O. Brown,

Dear Friend;
Mr. W_ as usual, turns the correspondence in regard to his compensation over to me_ He feels inclined to drop the matter rather than fix upon the price of his labors - a thing he has never done & could hardly be induced to do.

He would rather call it a contribution to the cause_ I would consent to this if we could afford it_.

Mr. W_ received part payment from the Societies at the North from the time of his appointment by General Order No. 30. Norfolk
