Mr C C Brown Claim Agent acting here for the well known firm of Wolf Hart & Co in Washington, called on me several times to know if I would be willing to sell to those whose Claims he knew to be good, a certain amount of Clothing upon orders for a portion of their bounty Money, He represented to me that many of the men needed clothing and boots & shoes very badly, and that though I would have to wait for the money I would be sure to get it finally.

I wrote to  Messrs. Wolf, Hart & Co for advice and they answered me that if they had Clothing they would sell, and furthermore that Mr Brown their Agent was a very honest upright man who would see justice done to all parties and in whom I could put implicit Confidence, I accordingly sold as much goods as my circumstances would permitt me to sell on Credit, and also made arrangements with other parties how to sell them some shoes and boots as I do not deal in those myself and most of the men assuring me that they stand sadly in need of them, some of them showing me their toes sticking out of their boots. I also had an understanding with Mr. Brown that none of the men, even those who had the largest bounties due them should get more than 50.00 the highest 75 dollars worth of goods, there with George Washington he brought me a note from Mr Brown to sell him 50. Doll. worth of goods, he offered to sell me his order but I refused to buy at all telling him that I would let
