got? The deponent informed Mr. Baker, in answer to his inquiry, what he had purchased and the amount, and how and when the same was to be paid for. Mr. Baker replied that deponent would be fucked out of his money by Mr. Brown. Mr. Baker then requested me to send to him all the men who had purchased clothing from Seldner & Co; that he intended to inform the Govt. at Washington of Mr. Brown's course and to break him up. Mr. Baker then drew up a paper which he required the deponent to sign and swear to, the contents of which the deponent does not know but this is all that paper between us.

* Before putting down the word as used by the witness, I requested him to reflect upon the language he attributed to Mr. Baker, and not to impute to him an outrage upon all that was decent. The witness reitterated it, and said that it was the word used by Mr. Baker.
