at the Bureau or any influence there, I have taken the liberty to address you, as being one of the Senators from my old state, who takes an interest in the Freedmans affairs as well as in the prosperity of the sons of the old Bay state.

I am vain enough to suppose I am competent to discharge the duties of the office, having been a member of the bar of Worcester County Mass. a number of years, and also a professor of Law in the N.Y. state Law school two or three years before the war.

I ought to be right on the score of loyalty, too, having served as private in the war for about 3 years, and resided in this city one year,
