subject. I do not know what salary it is proposed to give the attorney, nor in what manner it is proposed to determine the question, I think there can be no difficulty in fixing the attorneys salary where his duties are defined and limited.

For myself, I should be perfectly satisfied with such salary as should be deemed to be reasonably compensating, whatever it might be; one that I could think was a fair and honorable equivalent for intelligent, energetic and faithful services; a salary not exhorbitant nor yet parsimonious, but one, which, under all the circumstances, should be considered just and proper.

Yours very Respectfully
Newton Tourtellot.
