4th Decr. 1866

Dear Sir,
The bearer Critty, who was my servant, has a son Elias now in the U.S. service as a soldier, stationed I am told at Washington & wishes to go there to see him & also to see some other children who are at Freedman's Village or in Maryland in the vicinity of Washington. They left my plantation in 1864 & she has not seen them since. She has not the means of defraying the expense of the journey & wishes the government to give her transportation if it can be done. Several of my people within the last four weeks have returned from Freedman's Village to my house with government transportation. She ought I think to receive this favor, if consistent with the practice of the government, & I have not a doubt, if you can, you will furnish her with it.

I am with great respect,
Your obd't. sv't.
