This Indenture made this 21st day of November 1859, between Dr A. T. Dix overseer of the poor of the County of Accomac of the one part, and Zerrobabel C. Mason of said county farmer of the other part Witnesseth that the said Dr. A. T. Dix overseer of the poor as aforesaid acting with the allowance & approbation of the county court of Accomac county & in pursuance of an order of said court to that effect made & entered in the 26th day of September 1859 have put & bound & by these present put & bind Moses Beavers (free negro) of said county , who was on the day of above order six years four months & 28 days old.  As an apprentice to Zerrobabel Mason to learn the trade business & art of a farmer & with him to dwell & remain until he the said Moses Beavans shall attain his full age of 21 years.  During all which time he the said Moses Beavans has master faithfully shall serve & obey.  His secrets keep & his lawful commands willingly do and perform & shall not absent himself from the service of his said master day or night without his leave but shall in all things as a faithful apprentice behave himself towards his master & all his family during the said term.  And the said Zerrobabel C. Mason in consideration of the faithful services to be performed by the said Moses Beavans doth hereby covenant, promise & agree with the said overseer and his successor in office that he the said Zerrobabel C. Masoen his said apprentice in the trad art  & mystery of a farmer which he now useth shall & will teach & instruct in the best manner that he can, or cause to be taught or instructed, will & shall provide & allow unto said apprentice during all the said term competent
