Captain,

I have the honor to enclose letters to Samuel Ellis late of Co. A, 1st U.S.C. Tps and Thaddius Diggs late of Co. F, 1st U.S.C. Tps  - you will please have these parties found, and the letters delivered to them if possible.

A colored man named Saml Ellis, a discharged soldier from the U.S.A. was shot and killed by a policeman, (Kett Diggs), in portsmouth, Va, sometime in May last, leaving a wife there_- if this was the Ellis above referred to transmit the letter to his wife.
