Sir:

William Wilkinson (free born col'd man) complains of the decision of E.C. Epps J.P. in New Kent County, lately given in the case of A. Hewlitt (white) vs. Wm. Wilkinson (col'd). The suit was brought to recover rent of a piece of land for the year 1866 and judgement was given for plaintiff for $25. and costs.

The land remained vacant the whole year; Wilkinson admitted that he had seen Hewlitt in refused to obtaining it but denied plaintiff's statement that he (def't) had closed the bargain; stating that he went to see it but found the house uninhabitable. Def't claimed that he (def't) rented it to other parties this year for $30. and that it was worth as much last year. Wilkinson had no [[/strikethrough]] [[?]] [[strikethrough]] witnesses in his favor.
