Capt
I have the honor to make the following report in the Case of the Freedman referred to in my Report of Bureau Affairs in General for April, 1867 as having been shot near this place
It appears from the statement of Henry Edwards (the Freedman who was Shot) that about 4 o'clock of the morning of April a party of men came to his house. Knocked at his doors and demanded entrance; he got out of bed and opened the back door and was then ordered to open the front door which he also did; two men entered at the back door and ordered him to make a light; he replied that he had no light and one of them struck him with his fist (left hand) and when he raised his arm to ward off the blow the man struck him in
